The Angry Heart

The Angry Heart Angry Heart : A wise man fears the LORD and shuns evil, but a fool is hotheaded and reckless. A quick-tempered man does foolish things, and a crafty man is hated. Proverbs 14:16-17 (NIV) An angry man stirs up dissension, and a hot-tempered one commits many sins. Proverbs 29:22 (NIV) The root of sinful anger grows in a heart that is self-centered and idolatrous. Because we live in a society that screams constantly about “rights,” when our perceived rights are violated, we become angry. Women champion their “right to choose,” homosexuals fight for the…

The First Encounters of the Holy Spirit of God with Man

GOD THE CREATOR Already in the opening chapters of the Bible God encountered man. Practically all of the elements of the Spirit’s work in the life of man are latent in these opening chapters. By studying them we gain perspective and direction for tracing later encounters of the Spirit of God with man.The first statement, “In the beginning God” (Gen. 1:1), brings us to the eternal Being through whose word the heavens and the earth were created. Jesus is a man

Everything about Jesus identifies him as our kinsman-redeemer. John warns Christians: “Many deceivers have gone out into the world who do not confess Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.” (2 John 7).  This allegation is applicable to Paul in the bible.By his own admission, Paul was a sinner who could not walk righteously before God.  He confesses: “What I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do.” (Romans 7:15).  Therefore, Paul creates a self-serving Christology to excuse his sinfulness.  He says:…

Jesus says the false prophet will be a Christian.  He will be a wolf in sheep’s clothing.  He will prophesy in the Lord’s name.  He will cast out demons and do many signs and wonders in Jesus’ name.  Nevertheless, the Lord will deny knowing him because he will practice lawlessness. (Matthew 7:15-23).The man in the bible who diminishes the law and practices lawlessness is Paul.  It is Paul who says: “to the lawless, I was lawless.” (1 Corinthians 9:21).

What is Marriage? Man and Woman: A Defense

This book is an expansion of a controversial article in the Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy in 2011. Given the seemingly inexorable advance of same-sex marriage in the United States in the two years subsequent, and last week’s rulings from the Supreme Court to strike down a law refusing federal benefits to homosexual couples while also refusing to rule on Proposition 8, this book is certainly timely. It argues that current public policy debates are really about the nature of marriage itself, not about homosexuality or even same-sex…

Is There a Man in the House? (Part 1) Genesis 11-18

Sometime ago I heard about a seminary student who had graduated, and he was an unusual seminary student in that rather few of the people who graduate from seminary really have multiple job opportunities. Most of the time we scratch and scramble. I had to go find my own. I actually had to start a church to get a job. So life was a little bleak there for a while for me. But this student had multiple opportunities and one of them, the one that really, really intrigued him was…

Gods Letter to Married Man!!

And the LORD God said, “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.” Genesis 2:18 “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.” Ephesians 5:25 to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.
